Watch out world! There are now going to be 53 1st graders from Bowen Elementary riding on their awesome new bikes around the Grand Rapids area. We are happy to announce that our Annual CAN’d Aid Bike Build at Perrin Brewing Company on Monday May 14th was a huge success with a turnout of roughly 65 volunteers! The volunteers included Perrin Brewing Co. staff and customers, CAN’d Aid Foundation members, locals, Bowen Elementary staff, parents of students and families.
The CAN’d Aid Foundation’s mission is to make a difference through volunteer acts of “do-goodery” by supporting Towns, Tunes, Treads + Trails and Love Yur Mama programs. Specifically, the bike build program is about helping build brand new bicycles for students who need them at title 1 schools in communities around the nation. This resonated well with us here at Perrin Brewing Co., so we partnered up!
With refreshing craft beers and even better people, the atmosphere at the Bike Build was fun, friendly, and smooth sailing! After the Bike Build on Monday, the brand new bikes were presented to the 1st grade students at Bowen Elementary on Tuesday May 15th at 2:30pm, as a surprise after coming back from a field trip at the zoo.
There was nothing more rewarding than witnessing the reaction of these kids when they first realized they were getting these new bikes. For some, this was the first bike they had ever owned! With jaws dropping and smiles popping, the kids were all so excited and happy; as was everyone involved in making this happen. For that, on behalf of Perrin Brewing, we thank all the volunteers and people who helped this event come together as a CAN’d Foundation act of “do-goodery”.
After a safety demonstration by Deputy Guss and a helmet/bike fitting by volunteers and parents, they were ready to safely explore the world on their brand new bikes!
